This course will help new and veteran investigators obtain evidence and testimony that will be admissible in court.

This course covers the constitutional requirements and the fundamentals of writing a valid affidavit.

Topics: The purpose of the search warrant and basis for the affidavit, The constitutional requirements including 4th amendment, The fundamentals of writing a valid affidavit that is specific and fresh, Develop the elements of probable cause and articulate them in written form, The necessary components of the search warrant, person and place to be searched and property to be seized, Types of search warrants including telephone and communication data warrant, Court hearing and execution procedures will be reviewed.  Students will be able to submit a mock warrant for the instructor to review and give feedback.
